Ladd Acres Elementary Hosts Day of Outdoor Learning
Last week, Ladd Acres Elementary School hosted a "Day of Outdoor Learning" to encourage students to engage with nature and learn about the environment in creative ways. The event offered a range of interactive activities, providing students with an opportunity to participate in three sessions.
One of the most popular activities was the scavenger hunt, which challenged students to find specific items in the school grounds, helping them observe and appreciate the natural world around them. Meanwhile, the nature obstacle course tested their agility and connection to nature as they navigated through a series of outdoor challenges. Artistic activities were also a highlight of the day. Students got hands-on experience painting rocks, creating shadow art, and leaf painting. They also enjoyed making nature rubbings, capturing the intricate patterns and textures of leaves and other natural objects.
The "Day of Outdoor Learning" also focused on environmental education, with sessions dedicated to water quality testing and the creation of bird feeders. Students learned about the importance of clean water and ways to support local wildlife. Incorporating science and engineering concepts, students made their own microscopes and parachutes, further exploring the world of STEM. They also had fun making bubble solutions and bubble wands, turning science into play.
The event concluded with a re-purposing activity where students turned trash into creative items and participated in writing "I am Earth" poems, expressing their thoughts and feelings about the planet. A great day for students, fostering a love of nature and the environment.
